Three generations, three configurations
GEN1: 8HP45 / 8HP70
MaxxECU can control the engine and transmission. This architecture brings engine strategies, torque-reduction requests, shifting and logging into one environment.
Approach: integrated MaxxECU control when the transmission and build are compatible.
GEN2: 8HP50 / 8HP75
MaxxECU manages the engine and communicates with a TurboLamik controlling the transmission. CAN and torque requests must be planned as a two-controller integration.
Approach: TurboLamik-compatible with the correct modification and harness.
GEN3: 8HP51 / 8HP76
TurboLamik can control these transmissions, but the original GEN3 valve body must be replaced with the corresponding GEN2 valve body.
Conversion: 8HP51 with an 8HP50 valve body; 8HP76 with an 8HP75 valve body.
Confirm these items before ordering
- Transmission identification: exact model, generation and donor vehicle.
- Vehicle configuration: RWD, AWD, retained OEM modules and CAN network.
- Engine and ECU: available signals, electronic throttle and torque strategy.
- Use: street, drag, drift, track, transbrake or clutch kick.
- Controls: BMW or Dodge shifter, paddles, keypad or sequential shifter.

Frequently asked questions
Can a MaxxECU MINI be used only as an 8HP controller?
A standalone GEN1 application may be possible, but engine signals, torque-reduction requests and CAN integration must be evaluated. Coordination is more direct when MaxxECU also controls the engine.
Do I need TurboLamik on GEN1?
Not necessarily. With a compatible GEN1 8HP45 or 8HP70, integrated MaxxECU control can remove the need for a separate TCU when MaxxECU also manages the engine.
Do I need TurboLamik on GEN2?
In the architecture described here, yes: MaxxECU controls the engine and TurboLamik controls the GEN2 8HP50 or 8HP75.
How do I use TurboLamik with a GEN3 8HP?
The 8HP51 must use a GEN2 8HP50 valve body. The 8HP76 must use a GEN2 8HP75 valve body. TurboLamik then controls the converted transmission.
